Due to a missed flight, we arrived at the car rental store several hours late. The staff waited patiently and were very friendly, even giving us directions and providing plenty of maps. The car pickup was very smooth with no additional sales pitches. The vehicle was quite new, with just over 10,000 kilometers. Since I purchased full insurance, I didn't pay much attention to the existing scratches on the car, but there were a few. If you haven't bought full insurance, you should pay more attention to these details.
The Chinese staff at the Auckland city pickup location gave a biased explanation about the full tank, leading to misunderstanding. I didn't know I had to purchase a full tank when picking up the car. I thought I just needed to refill the amount used when returning. I returned the car with more than 80% fuel, but they didn't refund anything. This method is deceptive as the car rental company always benefits since no one uses up the entire tank.
The management is considerate and fully trustworthy. The car was clean and tidy when picked up. Returning the car was at 5 AM; we just parked at Christchurch Airport (Hertz parking area) and left the keys at the unattended Hertz counter. It felt great to be trusted.
Hertz's customer service was great. The car pickup was very quick and convenient. The car was very new. I booked a Corolla on the North Island, but upon pickup, I found out I was upgraded to an SUV. The driving experience was great, and I am very satisfied.
