There were quite a few people at the car pickup. The lady assisting us saw we were Chinese and tried to upsell us. She said we could upgrade from our booked Peugeot 308 to the latest 2018 Alfa Romeo Q4 SUV for just an additional 20 euros per day. Considering our luggage and vehicle condition, we agreed to the upgrade. She told us we'd need to pay a total of about 260 euros extra at drop-off (I signed the document but forgot the exact amount). We confirmed multiple times if the total additional cost would only be 260 euros, and she reassured us. We also repeatedly mentioned that we had already purchased insurance and didn't need any additional coverage, but she concealed other significant fees from us and didn't provide a paper contract, only an email. This email was sent to the car rental platform. When we returned the car, we found out there was an extra 600 euros to pay. The return agent tried to force us to sign and agree to pay. We proactively contacted the car rental platform, and they mentioned our emails were flagged, indicating an issue, though we had not contacted them previously. Our experience with Avis was so poor that we wouldn't even give them a single star. We thought being a large company, they would provide better service, but even large companies deceive Chinese customers.
Unable to mirror Google Maps onto the screen, had to hold the phone throughout the trip. Paid insurance for six days, but charged for seven because I picked up the car an hour early. I also returned the car an hour early.
The overall experience was straightforward with no unnecessary hassle. The car was new and the driving experience was excellent. However, when I rented the electric vehicle, I specifically asked if there were any special requirements regarding charging, and the staff said there weren't. Upon returning the car, the inspection staff suddenly told me I needed to charge the battery to over 80%, resulting in a charge of more than 20 euros. This was a negative experience.
I had already completed all payments through Zuzuche, including additional insurance. At the counter, the clerk said nothing, didn't ask or explain anything, just asked me to sign and pay the deposit. Naturally, I assumed he was aware that I had completed all formalities with Zuzuche. However, when I returned the car, I was asked to pay an additional 112 euros for extra insurance. It feels like a scam. I repeatedly contacted the rental store, but they dismissed me each time, claiming I had signed for it. Each trip to AVIS took up half a day, and I never got a reasonable resolution. It's fair to call it a scam!
The car already had damage at the rear before departure, and I had informed the staff about it beforehand. However, I was still charged over 1200 Euros for repair costs without any notification; the amount was directly deducted from my bank account. I only found out after checking my bank statements. I truly cannot understand this.
