Remind everyone to ensure their credit card allows international payments, and it's good to have a backup card. Driving on the left in Australia is easy to adapt to since the driver sits on the right. Also, remember that besides using the navigation, you shouldn't use your phone in the car, or you could be fined a few hundred AUD if caught.
I reserved a Kia Carnival, but initially didn't buy full insurance. The short blonde woman who assisted me had a bad attitude throughout the process. They gave me a huge Staria, which I later found to be too large, so I decided to purchase full insurance. The vehicle is very large and consumes a lot of fuel, but that's not the main issue. Being a front-wheel drive and not a 4WD, it's very heavy, and struggled to go uphill on gravel roads in Australia. It was very dangerous and slid back several times. On three occasions it got stuck, and we spent a lot of time pushing it out. Overall, the experience was not very good.
