They kept pushing various insurance options and ended up charging me for a full tank of fuel. Even after returning the car with a full tank, they still charged me, and I had to contact them myself.
I couldn't get a Challenger when picking up the car, so they gave me a Charger instead. I thought it was fine since it's at least a V6. But the rear tire of the car they gave me had a slow leak, almost left me stranded on the way to Grand Teton National Park. I had to keep inflating it while driving until I found a place to change the car. They tried to give me a Cruze, but after some negotiation, I got an Escape and had to pay an extra 61 dollars.
Returning the car was relatively smooth, but a few hours later, they charged me 12 dollars, not sure what for.
A few years ago, when I worked in North Carolina, Hertz had much better service. Not sure if it's a regional difference or if Hertz's service has declined significantly. I suggest not choosing Hertz...
They tried to sell extra insurance, and claimed my reserved car wasn't available, suggesting other cars that required additional payment. Initially, the staff quoted an extra $48 per day, but when I said it was too expensive, someone who said they were a manager offered it for $24 per day. Since it was late and I needed to hit the road, I had no choice but to agree. It felt like a scam.
Hertz is truly a big company; the entire process was very organized and user-friendly. The vehicle provided was in excellent condition. When we picked up the car, we noticed some scratches on the wheel. After showing photos to the service desk, they said it was fine. Upon returning the car, they simply checked the odometer and fuel level and completed the inspection. They had held a $200 deposit when we picked up the car, which was promptly refunded to our card after the inspection. It was really fast.
